‘The Hills’ Ending Shocks Fans: Was the Show Fake All Along? – Yahoo! TV Blog
Anyone expecting the long-running MTV reality-based drama “The Hills” to go out with a whimper got a surprise last night when it ended with a confounding bang. Fans were gobsmacked by the final scene, which seemed to suggest that the entire “reality” series was as fictional as a Pixar movie. In the final scene, star Kristin Cavallari is shown on the street saying goodbye to former love Brody Jenner. Cavallari has decided to go to Europe to “find herself.” The two bid farewell, and the audience is treated to a montage of scenes from the entire series set to a remix of the show’s theme song, “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. Then, Cavallari gets into the back of a black sedan that is presumably headed for the airport. Jenner watches mournfully as the car drives off into the distance. But then the camera pans out to reveal a fake, Hollywood backdrop as an MTV.com article describes it. As the background slips away, it appears as though at least some of the final scene has taken place not on a Los Angeles street corner, but on a studio set.
